What Have We Been Up To in Class?

What have we been up to in class?

English

We are currently learning about Nouns and Verbs in English. Students have been doing different activities in class to differentiate between the two parts of language such as playing charades, cutting ans pasting activities, as well as identifying these as we read our stories in class. These students are doing a great job recognizing what is a Noun and what is a Verb.

Noun- a person, place, object, thing, idea: house, cat, table, chair

Verb- an action word: jump, play, go, ride, eat

Also in English we are learning to write better sentences in our journals. Students must remember that when we write sentences we begin them with a capital letter and finish the sentence with a full stop. See the example below:

 Example:

mubarak went to the store to get some milk

Fixed Sentence:

Mubarak went to the store to get some milk.

-Notice that there is a capital at the begining of the sentence and a period/full stop at the end of the sentence.

Math

We are learning about some great concepts in math currently. First we are learning about place value. Students are expected to know what each number space is called for each numeral in a number.

See the picture below:

Students are also expected to know a number by looking at how many base 10 blocks are shown. The picture below shows the number 233. There are 2 hundreds blocks, 3 tens blocks, and 3 ones blocks.

Science

Students are continuing to learn about the scientific method. Each science experiment we do in class is done using the scientific method, which helps the students learn as they think about what is happening in an experiment. The steps of the scientific method we are using is located below:

As you can see the steps follow one another. Between step 1 and 2 we expect the students to make observations of the experiment. This is where the students will use their senses of sight, touch, taste, hearing, and smell to observe what is happening in the experiment.

Homework and Practice:

Students can use the following websites for extra practice at home. There are also some game sites that will help with the students learning.
