Welcome Back to Mr. Joe's Class!!!

Sorry again for not updating for a while, we have been really busy.

EMSA is Finished!!!

What have we been up to in Mr. Joe's class?

For the last month we have had our student teacher Ms. Zulaikha from Emirates College of Advanced Education helping out in our classroom. She is currently finishing up her University work with an Internship in our Grade 4 Classroom. She has not only helped out the students in the class, but she has also planned her own lessons to teach to the students. Her lessons are well thought out and she does a great job of engaging the students through hands on activities. She has been a great help to all the students as well as to Mr. Joe, so a BIG THANK YOU to Ms. Zulaikha!

English

We have been really working hard with our writing. We have been learning about main idea and details, and using these in our writing. We have also been reading different non fiction texts and figuring out what is the main idea of each.

As a whole class we are have recently read a book called Thunder and Lighting. The students have learned about the different sever weather patterns from this story. To go along with this story, the boys did a weatherman report on the weather in Abu Dhabi. During their report they spoke about precipitation, temperature, and climate.

We have been working hard preparing for the EMSA, doing both writing activities as well as practice reading problems. The boys did a great job reviewing for the EMSA test, and I sure they did a great job on the EMSA test!

Math

The boys have been working very hard in math class. They have begun to learn about fractions and that fractions are a piece of a whole. The pictures below will help your boys understand more about fractions.

The boys have also begun to learn about decimals. We use decimals in all different ways, but the boys really took an understanding when using them with money. We have started to learn the place value of each decimal as well as the golden rule for adding or subtracting decimals: LINE UP ALL THE DECIMALS.

Ms. Zulaikha has taught great lessons about data collection using pictographs, bar graphs, line graphs, and double bar graphs. We took different types of data and plotted the data on these new charts and graphs we are learning about.

Science:

We have been working had learning different scientific knowledge. First we have been learning about Sever weather patterns, as was mentioned above. Ms. Zulaikha has also taught a great lesson on Light and what is Translucent, Transparent, and Opaque light. She has also taught introduction lessons about energy. The students are doing a great job learning about the different science topics.

The following pictures are from the boys in Mr. Joe's classroom with their animal projects, our class field trip, science experiments in the lab, and working in centers in the class:
